Assistant Attorney - Prosecution job at Confidential Topeka, KS, US

Job Description

The City of Topeka’s Criminal Prosecution division is seeking a licensed attorney to join its team as an Assistant Attorney. This is an excellent opportunity to gain courtroom experience, develop strong litigation and research skills, and make a meaningful impact in the community through public service.

What you'll do:

Prosecute pro se and court appointed represented misdemeanor and traffic cases in Municipal Court under the direction of the Chief of Prosecution and/or the City Attorney.
Prepare pleadings, memoranda, legal briefs and other documents for review.
Respond to questions from the public and city staff regarding city ordinances, state statutes and city policy.

The ideal candidate:

Has knowledge of Federal and State statutes and City ordinances.
Is skilled in organization and time management.
Has the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgement.
Possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to explain statutes, ordinances, policies and procedures to all levels of the community and organization.

Minimum qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Kansas.
Demonstrated experience in the legal field is required.
- Two years of experience in the legal profession as a licensed attorney or intern is preferred.
Must pass an extensive background check, including a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check.

Annual Entry Salary: $65,781 - $77,220 depending on qualifications
